PhD Review - Frequency Domain Methods for Fatigue and Damage Estimation

Understanding how vibration leads to fatigue damage is at the heart of my PhD research. Engineers often need to predict years of structural wear from only a limited amount of measured data, making efficient fatigue estimation methods essential for durability assessment and accelerated testing.

In this paper, A Review of Frequency Domain Methods for Fatigue and Damage Estimation, I explore the main techniques used to estimate fatigue damage directly from vibration spectra. The review compares their assumptions, strengths, and limitations, providing a practical guide to the methods that underpin modern vibration qualification and durability engineering.

This work forms the theoretical foundation for much of my research on mission synthesis, vibration environment characterization, and lifetime prediction of mechanical systems.
